I think maybe due to rumors of buffalo wings at the Superbowl party, Gael popped a tooth through yesterday at 5.5 months old. With little fuss and no fanfare, he joined the ranks of non-babies everywhere. I know he can’t wait for steak and eggs. Too bad for him that the only thing upcoming on his menu so far is mashed banana.

Gael is chill and amiable. He is happy and very attentive. He has an unusual fondness for children’s programs on t.v. He drools and chews incessantly as he has since 2-3 months. He loves being tickled and held and, my favorite, to cuddle.

He is in many ways similar and many ways completely different from his brother. For example, when Rome got his first tooth we all suffered for days. I ran out and spent $60 on every kind of teething toy and pain remedy I could lay hands on. With Gael it was like a passing discovery – Oh, there’s a little sharp bit there on his gums. What? It’s a tooth! Anyways… Reminds me of a lovely post another mother wrote about her kids. Rome is just like me, making him easy to parent, but Gael I get to enjoy getting to know.

Rome at almost two and a half is clever and usually delightful. He makes up stories now about how a cat or dinosaur gave him his booboos. He is very helpful and use his tools to fix chairs, his medical kit to give check ups. He mostly stays positive and can be easily dealt with by framing everything in a positive way. Or am I just describing me now?

Anyways, big victory for the Giants and for the Giant-Baby, Gael. Mom also made it back with us from the party and I was happy to see that she is in one piece and seems much better now than she sounded a week ago. Rome has already given her one check up and as long as he doesn’t jump on her or pull her around too much, I think we’ll all be great!

I believe if you want to make things happen in life, you have to put it out there to the Universe and open yourselves up to the change you would like to see.

That’s kind of what we did when we moved to New York a year ago – we decided that in order for it to be possible to have a life here, we’d have to move here to get jobs and make it happen. But, that didn’t happen. It half-happened, with me getting a job right away, but not fully because Aldo couldn’t find anything. So, at Christmas time, we gave in to the idea that what what we really wanted, more than living in New York, was financial stability to support ourselves, and that might not happen here. We then decided, we might have to go back to Texas, or where ever it is that the Universe wants to provide for us.

It was hard for me to get to that point, but I did, and I was excited. So I wrote about it on the blog, meaning it was real and happening.

But then right after I did that, Aldo gets a call for an interview. In NY. He has the interview, then gets a call for a second interview. Meanwhile, I get a promotion of sorts that acknowledges all the work I’ve been doing and also gives me an opportunity to grow.

And we haven’t heard peep from Texas.

So, I don’t know folks. I believe the Universe is telling us to give in and really admit it’s not totally up to us. Or maybe hardly at all up to us. And we do, give in, that is. WE GIVE IN! DO YOU HEAR ME? We’re just going to be so grateful for whatever we get, when we get it. New York doesn’t have to be forever, Texas is always an option, we just want something to work out so badly, we’ll be able to find all the bonuses of whichever it is, just so long as it IS.

That’s the non-update update. You know as well as we do what is next! Which is to say, no one knows!
